Planning a wedding shouldn’t be stressful. It should be fun and something you, your family and your friends can all get excited about.
Most of my friends have either become ladened with the stress of wedding planning, or been completely chilled and enjoyed all the exciting things that come with the big day. This is quite rare though. Majority of people seem to go down the stressful road, and this is where emotions run high and bridezillas creep up out of nowhere.
A wedding is a celebration of love. It’s a celebration – full stop. It shouldn’t become an event that causes stress, tears and even debt. It’s a day where you and your partner can make a vow to be with one another for the rest of your lives, and to let your nearest and dearest witness your love in its purest form.
Daisarella has put together 10 top tips on how to remain YOU and not transform into ‘bridezilla’ when planning your special day:
- Remain calm
Everything will get done by your deadline. Although your wedding date may be creeping up on you, remember that you decided on that date for a reason. Everything will be sorted in time.
2. Get inspiration
It’s great to look around on social media, websites that cater to wedding planning or simply picking up a wedding magazine in your local supermarket. A great place to start – click here to start your inspiration journey.
3. Create a mood-board
If you are struggling to make decisions, then create a few different mood-boards. You can do this on Pinterest or simply by cutting out images from magazines or online articles. This should help you see what fits the theme of your day, and what doesn’t.
4. Set realistic budgets
Don’t start your marriage off in debt. Set yourselves some reasonable budgets, and ensure that you don’t go overboard.
5. Understanding you can’t please everybody
Whether it’s your mother, brother, distant Aunt or long-distance friend…you will upset someone. The day isn’t about them, so make decisions that suit you and your partner and roll with them. They will get over it, and if they don’t then simply say goodbye.
6. Work with your partner
It’s their day too! So try not to forget that their opinion matters just as much as your own. It’s so easy to run away with your creative ideas for the big day, but remember to discuss everything you plan and both agree to it before signing on the dotted line.
7. Don’t rush decisions
You want this day to be everything you ever dreamed of, and more. So make sure that you think everything through before committing. Do you really like the first dress you tried on? Is Mac and Cheese a good food choice for the day? Don’t make hasty decisions until you’ve explored your options.
8. Choose a theme
Choose a theme that tells your guests about your love. Don’t go and choose a theme like Manchester United Football Club unless it’s what you both feel reflects your relationship.
9. Your bride gang
Ensure that your dearest and nearest are included in your big day, because one thing is for certain…you will need their support – emotionally and tactically.
10. Enjoy it!
This will be your very special day between you and your loved one, and it really is all about you both. Everyone will just want to see you happy and celebrating your relationship, so enjoy your day and don’t forget about the meaning behind what you are doing. YOLO and all that jazz!
