When I found out I was expecting in August 2017, I knew I wanted a surprise reveal during birth. Luckily so did my partner, so the decision was made and my guessing game began.
Now I feel like I just need to mention that throughout the whole of my pregnancy, I kept calling my baby ‘he’. I was 99.5% convinced that I was carrying a little boy, so when my partner told me through sobs that we’d had a little girl…well you can imagine my shock!
I had always dreamed of having a little girl called Belle. I grew up surrounded by Disney (blame my parents), my first bedroom was decorated featuring Mickey and gang (very 90s May I add) and my first cinema experience was watching Snow White with my Dad (but I cried when the witch came on the screen so we had to leave). It was a given that I would always LOVE everything Disney. So when I saw Beauty and the Beast for the first time, I became completely besotted by Belle. She was a bookworm like myself, a free spirit that didn’t follow the expectations put on women and she was a firm believer in true romance. She was the Disney Princess that introduced me to all my fairytale desires. The other thing about Belle is the meaning of her name:
Belle:
noun
- a beautiful girl or woman, especially the most beautiful at a particular event.”the belle of the ball”
So I made a vow that if I was to ever be lucky enough to have a little girl, she would become MY Belle…and there she came. On 4th May 2018 my dream came true.

I feel so overwhelmed writing this post as Belle turned 11 months old yesterday, and I just don’t know where the time is going. I’ve been a mum for 11 months…and survived!
Having a daughter is a truly special experience. She is my best friend, my little shadow and my absolute life.

Of course, I am enjoying my time with her now and you could say even adapting to the sleep deprivation. However, I cannot wait for the times ahead such as; introducing her to Beauty and the Beast, Audrey Hepburn, Frank Sinatra and the Ratpack and just evenings spent doing our nails together and snuggling down in one another’s arms.
Belle, I will forever be your Mummy but I also promise to be your best friend and someone you can turn to at all times. Thanks for making my dream come true and for just being you (my cheeky raspberry blowing, scrambled egg throwing little monkey). You’re perfect and I can’t wait to watch you grow whilst holding your hand every step of the way.
Your Mummy x
