Discover kid’s health problems you should never leave “to sort themselves out”.
Please note this is a collaboration post.
As parents, we can sometimes take the attitude that our kids’ health problems will sort themselves out. And in many cases they do. It’s perfectly normal for children to sometimes have a snotty nose or headache.
Occasionally, though, there are situations that you just can’t ignore. The body doesn’t always correct itself, so parents have to step in and get medical attention. If they don’t, then it could put the child at a disadvantage for the rest of their lives.
Kids’ Health Problems – Obesity
Top of the list of health problems facing children right now is the issue of obesity.
Obesity isn’t something that happened very often when humans lived in their natural state, close to the land. But it is a byproduct of the norms in our society. So, for instance, many parents will feed their children the same food that they grew up eating, even if it made them obese.
Obesity is something you’ll want to catch early – preferably before the child reaches their fifth birthday. Dealing with it involves exposing the child to plenty of vegetables at their evening meal and getting rid of all junk food in the house. That doesn’t mean you need to be restrictive or ban party food altogether. But it should be the occasional treat, not the norm. Dealing with obesity in later life is notoriously challenging.
Kids’ Health Problems – Hearing Issues
The second problem you can’t afford to ignore is hearing issues. When hearing problems develop, it is critical to find a hearing specialist who can diagnose the condition. Children who can’t hear properly can struggle academically and developmentally. And that can lead to all sorts of problems in the future.
Hearing issues are usually simple to identify and resolve. The most common cause of hearing loss in children is blocked canals and damage done by repeated infections. Your audiologist may recommend they have grommets – small tubes that help to keep the passages supplying the ears open.
Asthma
Asthma, unfortunately, is on the rise. And researchers aren’t quite sure why. But, again, they think that it has something to do with modern living conditions and how they affect the immune system.
Asthma can be a scary condition for children. Attacks occur when the airways begin to narrow and prevent the flow of air to the lungs.
Asthma attacks can be serious and so you’ll need to get a prescription for inhalers and various other mitigating medications. Otherwise, your child could have a fatal attack.
Hand, Foot And Mouth Disease
Hand, foot and mouth disease is a condition where the child develops small blisters on the hands, mouth and feet. It’s annoying, but usually a mild infection.
A more serious condition is impetigo. This disease shows up as small blisters and red spots all over the body. Many can fill up and look a little bit like green pustules.
This condition requires medical attention. You should go and see your doctor as soon as it appears for a course of antibiotics. You should also keep your child away from other children for the first 24 hours, as they will be highly infectious.
