The Dreamgirls took to the stage at Milton Keynes Theatre for opening night last night – and it’s fair to say…it’s the show YOU CAN’T MISS!
Please note these tickets were gifted for the purpose of a review, but all thoughts are my own.
LISTEN, the cast of Dreamgirls is absolutely phenomenual. Every single member of the cast tore the roof of the place and the whole production was so beautifully put together – the costumes were to be envied.
For those that may not know the story – it’s set in 1960s America, and the Dreamgirls, or as they go by ‘The Dreamettes’, consists of Effy White played by Sharlene Hector, Deena Jones played by Natalie Kassanga, and Lorrell Robinson played by Paige Peddie. On their quest to become famous, things go amiss when Deena replaces Effy as the lead singer in the group. Effy’s brother writes a comeback song for her and she begins to compete with the girls in the charts – and the rest of the drama is portrayed right before your very eyes.
Every single member of the cast transformed me to the buzzing 60s – and classic songs ‘And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going’, ‘Listen’ and ‘One Night Only’, were as sensational as you’d expect.
This award-winning production of Dreamgirls is Directed and Choreographed by Olivier® and Tony® Award-winning Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon, Mean Girls, Disney’s Aladdin and Something Rotten!), with Set and Costume Design by Tim Hatley, Lighting Design by Hugh Vanstone, Sound Design by Richard Brooker, Hair Design by Josh Marquette, Music Supervision by Nick Finlow and Casting by Natalie Gallacher CDG for Pippa Ailion Casting CDG. The Associate Director is Alison Pollard, the Associate Choreographer is Sean Parkins and the Resident Director is Ricardo Coke-Thomas.
Performances are running at Milton Keynes Theatre between Tue 25th January until Saturday 5th February 2022 at 2:30pm and 7:30pm. Tickets start from £13 and bookings can be made by calling 0844 871 7615 or visit the booking website.
