As a busy parent, finding the time to make meals and healthy snacks for the whole family every day can be a challenge. It can take up a lot of time, as well as energy to complete. You want to give your family a good life and serve them healthy food, but it isn’t always possible when you have your own commitments and responsibilities to consider. This can often lead to quick, processed meals or takeaways. While there is nothing wrong with this, meal prepping might be something that can benefit you by making your life much easier, saving you time and helping you to spend less money on food. How would it feel to get in from work and dinner is already prepped, and you don’t need to make your children snacks for the next day?

To help you get started with meal prepping, here are some top tips that you need to know.

Make a list of acceptable foods
It can be very difficult when cooking for your whole family. There are likely going to be some fussy eaters in the house. This is where making a list of acceptable foods can be extremely helpful. Write down everything you already know, and speak to all your family members and find out what they like and don’t like. This way, when you plan your meals for the week, you don’t need to think too hard or spend too much time on them.
You can make a final list of food that is okay for everyone to eat. You can also keep individual lists if you prefer to make separate meals or if your children have specific dietary requirements. In addition to this, you should also speak with your family and get some meal ideas from them. Find out what meals they enjoy, and what ones are their favourite. You can also go online and find lots of recipes that are good for all the family, for breakfast, lunch and dinner. For example, these banana muffins for an easy breakfast. This preparation will also eliminate a lot of thinking on your behalf and make meal prepping a lot easier.
Make a weekly plan
Set aside a little time each week to make a plan. Maybe when the kids have gone to bed and you have a little time to yourself. Go through the meal list you have made with your family, and pick a few from there.
Depending on how much time you have, you can make meals a few days in advance, a week in advance, or even a couple of weeks in advance. If you do it for more than a few days or a week, then you may consider freezing some of the meals to keep them fresh. Add to your plan your shopping list with all the ingredients that you need. You can then set aside time each week to go shopping and cook the meals.
Getting started with meal prepping can seem daunting. If you complete these steps, you will find it much easier to achieve!
