The legendary production of Susan Hill’s chilling ghost story The Woman in Black comes to Milton Keynes Theatre direct from London’s West End, after an incredible 33-year run at the Fortune Theatre. The production which stars Malcolm James as Arthur Kipps and Mark Hawkins as The Actor. Both actors are absolutely incredible – and it really is a two-man show.
Both men play vital roles in keeping you on your feet, and the acting and story-telling throughout is spine-chillingly brilliant. I did make assumptions that I wouldn’t be a HUGE fan of this show, especially when I read that it was just two people the whole way through, but boy was I wrong. They both play their roles to perfection, and the sound-effects, stage darkness, LOUD bangs throughout and story-telling are what keeps you on your toes the entire performance. I walked out of there LOVING every moment of the show, and I highly recommend for anyone who likes a play that keeps you wanting more.
About the stage show…
Stephen Mallatratt’s adaptation of Susan Hill’s best-selling novel tells the story of a lawyer obsessed with a curse that he believes has been cast over his family by the spectre of a ‘Woman in Black’. He engages a young actor to help him tell his story and exorcise the fear that grips his soul. It begins innocently enough, but as they delve further into his darkest memories the borders between make-believe and reality begin to blur and the flesh begins to creep.
