What does the word cougar mean to you? If you immediately start thinking of a large wild cat that is found in America, then you are wrong on this occasion (and probably should click the cross at the top of this page).
I’m talking about the older woman that is seeking a sexual or romantic relationship with a younger man. This isn’t always sex related, but the word cougar describes a woman of these dating intentions. They basically seek a younger man for one reason or another. Some people really fantasise about Granny Sex, dogging, and particularly having sexual relationships with women or men that are 60+ or finding people with the same preferences.
Do you know a cougar or have you ever met one? Most of these women will openly label themselves by this term and use it as a description for their dating preferences. They have a very strict checklist and the first priority is normally – a younger male. This title is given to ladies above 35 years of age who seek men eight years or more her junior.
A lot of women use specialised cougar dating sites to ensure that their strict preferences are met, but occasionally luck works in their favour and the world will introduce them to their ideal partner. I was speaking recently to a 67 year old Norwegian lady (who wished to remain anonymous) and she told me all about her cougar dating experiences, she said: “My Cougar Dates have all been really respectful, romantic and occasionally raunchy. I prefer to go for a younger man because it gives me life, it makes me feel attractive and it ensures that I stay on my toes. I don’t like getting too comfortable, and this preference of dating suits me down to the ground. I like to be able to have my fun and then do away with it. A lot of older men want commitment, boring dates and no sexy time, but the younger man will entertain me, wine and dine me but will also still take me home for a bit of play time. A lot of people perceive cougar dating to be seedy and ‘money-chasing’ but it doesn’t involve this at all for me. All the younger men I have been with have all been after an older lady for some reason or another, and just like me they have a dating preference. We just like the younger man and they like the older lady – who said there was anything wrong with that?”
And just like that – I completely agree with her. Who said there has to be a rule on dating preferences anyway? I am dating somebody 9 years older than me and he is 36 years old – does that make our relationship something that people can freely judge? No! It doesn’t matter what your preferences are. I knew that I wanted to meet somebody older than me as I had previously dated people younger than me, and it simply didn’t work. Date who you want to date, live life safely and just have fun exploring your dating options. Just remember to be considerate to yourself and to be mindful of others. It’s so important to be clear from the start on what your dating preferences are, this will ensure that there are no tears, disasters or broken hearts further down the line too.
