Have you ever felt like you’re holding onto the secrets of your professional career? Well, when I put this book in my hands – little did I know the secrets that would unfold within each turn of the page…
AD – Please note this book has been gifted as part of a book tour, but all thoughts are my own.
I’m a self confessed book worm, and I love self-discovery books that open my eyes, and motivate me in taking new and exciting challenges upon myself. I wasn’t sure how this book would be received by myself, I’m not always a huge fan of self-discovery style books, so I went into reading this one sceptically.
This book is co-written by both Angela Lane and Serbey Gorbatov.

My Opinion of the Book
Move Up or Move On is a game-changer, especially for someone who is my position in life right now.
I am a Mum of two incredible children – Belle aged six and Millie aged one. So yes, my career has been on the backburner a little bit the past year or so, and I am slowly trying to reignite that spark and professionalism in me. To be honest, this book has landed in my lap at the most perfect time, and if you are in a similar position to myself – purchase the book.
The practicality and inspiration lies within each page, and not only do the authors offer advice for climbing the career ladder but also guides and step by step accounts on how to find enjoyment from your work, and juggling life’s other goals and habits.
Life will always throw you curveballs, for example: my one year old daughter was poorly last week and we ended up being admitted into hospital, and I had two major work deadlines to meet. Initially I cried, panicked and felt like hanging my career hat up for good. Once I had calmed down, accepted the situation for what it was, I remembered some of the advice I had read within this book. When life throws you these curveballs, you can choose to 1) stay put – stay mad – stay sad – stay still OR 2) reshape your career to align with your lifestyle and accept you need to change things in order to be happier.
I chose option 2.
I had two deadlines that I couldn’t meet, but guess what – my daughter being in hospital with a severe chest infection was much more important to deal with. I accepted I couldn’t do anything about this, and decided to reshape how I currently work with my clients. I won’t go into the ins and outs, but I lost one client, and the other client told me “don’t panic – and I hope your daughter gets better soon”.
The tone throughout the book is realistic – with no gimmicks (I hate gimmicks). It’s concise, inspiring and relatable more than anything. It’s a great read if you are ready for change, feeling stuck in a rut or simply need a bit of career guidance.
