If you want to become a better artist, then you have nothing to worry about. It is surprisingly easy to do and by following the below tips, you can be sure to see a huge transformation in yourself and the art that you create.
Find your Craft
The first thing that you need to do is ask yourself, what are you trying to accomplish? Is this going to be a hobby? Do you want to get to the stage where you can share your art with family? Or do you even want to sell it? Either way, it’s important that you find your focus so that when your pencil hits the paper, you have a clear vision. It’s possible for you to have more than one vision when it comes to your art, so don’t be afraid to work from multiple angles.
Find your Weaknesses
It’s so important that you understand your weaknesses as an artist. If you are a beginner, then you probably don’t know what they are yet and there is absolutely nothing wrong with this. You will however get to the stage when you realise that you just aren’t good at something. This could be colour mixing, brushwork or even drawing. Either way, when you do find your weakness, you need to focus a good amount of your time practising and improving so that you can become better. This will also boost your confidence, so it’s a win-win!
Socialise
It helps to socialise when you are an artist. You need to find other people who have similar interests as you and you also need to publish your art and ask for feedback. When you do this,
you can then improve, and you can also find out what other people think.
Sketch
Keeping a sketchbook handy is a great idea. You never know when you are going to get a flash of inspiration, and it’s always nice to scribble something down when you are on the bus or even when you are waiting for someone. You may also see something that you want to draw when you are out and about, and this can really help you to progress your skills.
Build a Library
Take as many photos as you can of objects, nature, people and more. It also helps to search for images online as well, so that you can save it in your phone. When you do this, you can then use them for inspiration and you can also make yourself more aware of the area you live in. After all, you never know when the next photo opportunity is going to be around the corner and you also never know when you’re going to be in “that” perfect moment again.
Explore Other Things
If you are a painter and this is where you find your strength to be then it helps to step outside the box from time to time. If you work with paints a lot, then try your hand at working with pencils. You never know what kind of doors this is going to open, and you may even find that you become a better artist as a result. Sure, it can be daunting to try something that you never have before, but the more you push yourself, the better you will know your strengths.
Learn the Fundamentals
You should have a basic understanding of the fundamentals of art. You need to look into things like colour theory, value and even perspective as well. These are all essential if you want to become a better artist, and it will also help you to be more focused as well. There are so many tutorials out there that are designed to give you this kind of guidance, and the best thing about it is that they are all free too!
The Voices
Everyone has voices in the back of their head that tell them that they have no talent. They also have voices that tell them that they will never be good at anything as well. If you leave these unchecked, then they can do a serious amount of damage and they can also destroy your confidence and the progress that you have made. It’s important to know that everyone goes through this at some point, but you can’t let them get to you.

Making Mistakes
When you make a mistake, don’t see it as being a bad thing. Mistakes are good, and you need to learn how to embrace them. If you don’t make mistakes then you will never learn, and you will never know right from wrong. Sure, mistakes can be frustrating but the more you embrace them, the more efficiently you will be able to draw or paint.
Get the Right Tools
Having the right tools is always crucial. If you do not have the right tools at your disposal then this will really impact your ability to do good work and it will also stop you from making progress. You need to invest in your own abilities and you also need to try and focus on what makes you unique. So if you are brilliant at fine details and the finer aspects of art then try and buy some brushes that will help you to do this even better. You would be surprised at what an impact having the right tools can have on your work and it is a great way to boost your confidence. If you want to try something new like sculpting, then you just need some glue guns and
polystyrene!

Take Inspiration
Looking at other work that is similar to your own is great. It will help you to get the inspiration you need, and it will also help you to become more confident in what you do. You should never copy someone else’s work, but it can help to take inspiration from the colours that they have used and even the composition of the image as well. When you do this, you can then find out where you are going wrong.
