There are so many different toys to choose from these days, but it is nice to recognise some from when I was a child – so today we had some retro fun with Plasticine and Stickle Bricks.

Retro fun with Plasticine and Stickle Bricks
Stickle Bricks
Even my grandmother knows what Stickle Bricks are – yes, that’s how retro but so relevant these bad boys still are still today.
Stickle Bricks are perfect for little creative minds, and also great for young children to learn how to put things together and build creatively. The Little Builder’s Box set includes loads of different sized bricks, plus three Stickle Brick faces. Suitable for 18 months+, but even I get a bit carried away with these ones.
Plasticine
Plasticine is a firm favourite for Belle on a rainy day. She absolutely loves using the little tools to get creative making different coloured monsters, ice-creams, and today – a peanut butter sandwich (apparently).
It’s a little tough to roll-out, so I do tend to monitor Belle closely when she is playing with Plasticine, but I end up having as much fun as she is. The benefit of Plasticine compared to other similar brands is that it doesn’t dry out, so you can use time and time again if you keep it stored properly.
There are so many toys out there these days that consist of screens and virtual reality, these heritage brands have been around for years, and are firm favourites amongst children around the globe. It’s so important to sit with our children and help their imaginations to run as wild as possible. I love watching Belle play with the Stickle Bricks, and then showcase the ‘shop’ she has built, or the monster she has created from green Plasticine.
