Did you know you can create beautiful re-loved candles from your very own old containers. It’s so simple, cost-effective and a great way to get crafty in time for Christmas too!

I always think it’s great when you discover new ways of being eco-friendly. I’m definitely trying to introduce more sustainable brands to my home, family and everyday lifestyle so ‘Refill My Candles’ is a great gift for those looking to do the same.
First Steps
Firstly, remove any residue wax by placing the candle container in hot/boiling water.
Then let the residue wax melt in the container, pour the melted wax into a bin and wash the container out with hot soapy water.
How much wax?
Firstly to discover how much wax you need to fill your container. Fill the candle jar to your desired height with water.
Then pour the water from the container into the measuring jug and round it up to the nearest 10ml.
Multiply that amount by 0.77 and that is how much wax you require in grams.
Then place the wax filled jug into the microwave for 4-5 minutes, until it has melted into a golden brown liquid with no solid pieces.
Whilst your wax is melting, secure the wick into the metal holder and attach one to the self adhesive pads to the base.
How to add smell
It’s recommended you use between 8 – 10% of one of the fragrance oils. I used 10% as I like my candles to smell strong. Use the small plastic measuring cup provided and add it to your wax. Stir it in for a couple of minutes to make sure it gets good coverage.
Final Steps
Place the empty container in a position where it can’t be disturbed, and pour the wax to desired height.
Leave it to set for a minimum of 6 hours or overnight.
Trim the wick to no less than 1cm above the hardened wax – and enjoy!
This kit is the perfect Christmas present this year, and I will definitely be attempting to make my own candles more often.
