Top Places to Visit in Berlin

I love doing a new travel guide – so today, I am putting the focus on Germany’s capital – Berlin. So here are some of the top places to visit in Berlin when you are thinking of booking your next city break…

There’s so much to see and do when you visit Berlin, so knowing where to start can be pretty difficult. I hope that this guide will help you to begin making plans to see Germany’s capital for the beauty that it is.

Top places to visit in Berlin

Tiergarten

Visit the city’s most famous park, and take a detour to Tiergarten which is beautiful in spring, summer, winter and autumn. It has a rather famous monument, beer and sausage stalls, beautiful spots to picnic or sunbathe and a 5km circuit which is great place to run, jog, cycle or walk with friends.

Reichstag

This building has survived wars, Nazis, fires, bombing and is now a symbol of German politics. It’s definitely one statement place to visit when in Berlin, and was designed by Sir Norman Foster.

Berlinale

The Berlinale was founded in 1951, but you’d think it had many more years behind it. It’s the world’s most popular film festival, better known as Internationale Filmefestspiele Berlin. Screenings can be viewed here, so it’s definitely worth checking the event calendar before you visit.

Brandenburg lakes

A peaceful visit for those of you who love to explore the great outdoors. It’s the North-Eastern state surrounding Berlin, which has land of over 2,500 lakes. It is stunning and a real spectacle to be seen. In the summer months you can also take a swim in some of the lakes, so a perfect place to visit during those hotter visits.

Mauerpark

If you love visiting a market then the flea one on a Sunday at Mauerpark is one you must visit. They have everything from local designers, artists, artisan foods to black-market CDs and DVDs. There are also loads of other things that take place at Mauerpark including Bearpit Karaoke during the week and loads of other music, dance and street performer acts. It’s a very cheerful, uplifting place to be.
