Last night, we were gifted tickets to go and view the theatre production of ‘Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’, and I think it’s fair to say – we all left talking about Jamie!

We went to Milton Keynes Theatre last night to see the national tour production of ‘Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’ and it was the first time that I’ve actually seen the show.
It’s a really contemporary and modern story that focuses on an unbreakable relationship between a mother and son and puts love, friendship, diversity and the power of self-acceptance at the forefront of the show’s storyline.
So who is this Jamie?
Jamie New is a 16-year-old growing up in a working-class area of Sheffield. Money is tight, and Jamie and his classmates are told to be realistic about their futures and not dream too big, but that doesn’t stop Jamie. He wants to become a drag queen and is supported by his doting mum, best friend Pritti and inspired by local legend, Loco Chanelle.
The musical is actually inspired by the true story of Jamie Campbell and his mother Margaret, and you can really see the true essence of the storyline through the production on stage.
The opening song, And You Don’t Even Know It transports the entire audience inside Jamie’s world, and introduces the character perfectly. The song that we all know and love already is – Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, and when this is performed during the opening of the second part, there was an electric atmosphere throughout the theatre – and I honestly think – everyone realised no dream is impossible.
Layton Williams plays Jamie exceptionally well and has that real sass, style and flair to make the character loveable, believable and a positive icon. Amy Ellen Richardson played Margaret, Jamie’s mother and her solo He’s My Boy is absolutely beautiful – and captures the essence of any mother’s love for their child.
Shane Richie plays Hugo – and it was absolutely incredible to witness his inner drag queen come alive on the Milton Keynes’ Theatre stage!
I wish I could name the entire cast, because the performances from everyone involved was amazing.
What I love most about the story of Jamie is that its positive, uplifting – and makes you walk out of the theatre knowing that the world is your oyster.
