How many of us use “Alexa – set a timer for 20 minutes” or “Google – when do the school holidays finish in England?”? The answer is – nearly all of us use Artificial Intelligence on a daily basis, whether it’s in our homes or out on-the-go. So I propose the question to you all – is artificial intelligence the way forward for parenting?

We are living in a time where artificial intelligence is on the rise, and the generation born between 2010 and 2025 are growing up in an era surrounded by the development of AI, and the increasingly popular demand in day to day life to utilise robots in some form or another.
Did you know there is already a robot that has been developed called Albert Einstein which helps older children with their educational activities by playing interactive games with them on topics such as Maths and Science. It can answer a whole range of quizzing questions and – may take homework duty off parents too.
There’s also loads of toys on the market these days which utilise Artificial Intelligence, and even for children as young as just 1 years old!
Artificial Intelligence is becoming more and more of a norm – and I even use it daily in my car when asking things like “Mercedes – call my Mother” or “Mercedes – can you put BBC Radio 2 on please”. We address these robots by their assigned names, and they respond by following our commands. It’s a huge development, and it is becoming increasingly more smart each week.
I am not suggesting that I would be happy to ask a robot to do my parenting duties, but the reality is – this is going to be an option for parent’s of the future. And it may actually be the norm for our children or grandchildren, whom will know no other way.
It’s amazing how from such a young age, our children are able to pick up a mobile phone, turn it on, scroll through pictures and even be mini photographers. The world is moving at such a fast pace, and technology is forever improving at an even greater speed. By the time our children have their own children, we will most definitely have new robots and Artificial Intelligence to improve our day to day activities and lifestyle choices.
I love reading up on Artificial Intelligence and the constant updates taking place with its development in our ever-changing world, this website is a great place to learn more and discover what really is next for AI.
Finally, maybe one day in the future we will be driving autonomous vehicles around, or perhaps asking things like “Alexa – read my child a bed time story” or “Alexa – if my child makes a noise play a soothing sound to get them back to sleep”. Who knows…
