I found out I was expecting my second child extremely early into my pregnancy (2 weeks in, to be exact) and the whole keeping quiet until my 12 weeks scan was difficult. So, this time round I did tell family and friends as I wanted to talk about it openly and seek comfort from them all. This blog is a little insight into my first trimester, and the highs and lows that come with it all..
GIFTED – Please note some of the vitamins that I discuss in this post were sent to me, but all thoughts are my own.
The first two months of my pregnancy were a LOT easier than my previous pregnancy with Belle. I had zero sickness, some waves of nausea, but in general I was doing well. The only symptoms I had early on were the fact that I missed my period, and my boobs felt like they were about to explode (they were so so sore and tender to touch).
The waves of nausea came and went, but one thing that has not since come back is – my appetite for chicken. The very thought of eating chicken breast makes me want to puke. I had this same reaction in my first pregnancy but with hot drinks like tea, coffee and herbal teas.

The tiredness has probably been my most depressing pregnancy symptom, and particularly now I’m in my second trimester. I just want my bed – ALL THE BLOODY TIME! If I can go for a bath and then straight to sleep – I will. If I can sleep in in the morning – I will (I’m already a Mum to a 4 and a half year old, so this never happens, but wishful thinking and all that jazz). I particularly find it hard staying awake for Love Island at 9pm every night.
We booked in for an Early Pregnancy private scan at Window to the Womb at 8 weeks, this was mainly because I’d known I was expecting for nearly 2 months and really just wanted reassurance that the baby was all okay. It was a beautiful experience, and one we hadn’t done previously with Belle. The baby was tiny, but it was just so comforting knowing he/she was there, all okay and I hadn’t imagined the whole thing.

Since I realised I was expecting bubba number 2, I’ve been taking Folic Acid every day which is prescribed by the Midwife, plus daily Vitamin D3 from Nature’s Best which is also recommended by my Midwife especially when you’re pregnant in the UK during the winter months.

I’ve also been trying out other vitamins, such as:
Pregna-Plan Pregnancy Multivitamin by Cytoplan which is a comprehensive, specifically formulated, pregnancy multivitamin and mineral for use during all stages of pregnancy and for those breastfeeding after birth.
It includes the UK Government’s recommendations for folic acid and vitamin D, along with excellent levels of other vitamins and minerals.

The other vitamin that was also highly recommended to me was Active Iron Pregnancy Plus which is a ground-breaking prenatal vitamin formula designed to optimise vitamin and mineral absorption while being kind on the stomach. Active Iron Pregnancy Plus is suitable for pre, during and post pregnancy use.

Plus I had to include one of my favourite brands, My Expert Midwife and their Pre-conception + Pregnancy Supplement. Its expertly developed by midwives, dieticians and metal medicine and obstetrics consultants. It’s natural, plant based and vegan based, and is of particular importance for those women who are still trying to conceive.

I’ve been really conscious this time round with taking my vitamins, eating healthier (my daily Instagram smoothie pictures will confirm this), and trying to ensure that my growing bump is getting the very best nutrients from me as possible. Although, I do have a bad craving for salty chips from the local fish and chip shop, but we won’t discuss that. Luckily, in my second trimester my craving for ice lollies seems to be the biggie.
Our 12 week scan went amazingly well, and like any expecting mum – I was super anxious up until this point. I just wanted to know that my little bundle of joy was all okay in there, but that anxiety doesn’t stop I’m now currently counting down to our next scan which is this evening to check wellness and gender (eeeeeek – so excited, and I think it’s another team pink bundle of joy).
It was amazing to do our announcement to the wider world, and to openly discuss our exciting news about becoming a family of four. And Belle could of course, finally tell the world she was about to be a Big Sister, although we did tell her early on and I’m pretty sure her whole friendship group knew within 24 hours of us telling her.

I’ll be doing another post once I’m in the final stages of the second trimester, but so far so good – and I’m super excited for tonight’s scan!
