Last night was the opening of the 70th anniversary tour of The Mousetrap, which is the longest running play in the entire world, and it is currently touring at Milton Keynes Theatre till 27th May.

The cast of the iconic murder-mystery includes Todd Party (Eastenders, Grange Hill, Dancing on Ice) who plays Major Metcalf, and Catherine Shipton (best known for playing Lisa ‘Duffy’ in BBC drama Casualty) as Mrs Boyle.
The whole cast was amazing though – and even though it’s the longest running show in the world – I was still unable to guess the murderer until the very end of the play.
The Mousetrap, written by Agatha Christie, the world’s best-selling novelist of all time, premiered at Theatre Royal Nottingham back in 1952 and toured the UK before opening in the West End where it continues its record breaking engagement at St Martin’s Theatre.
The iconic thriller is all about a group of seven strangers who find themselves snowed in at Monkswell Manor, a remote countryside guesthouse. When a police sergeant arrives, the guests discover, to their horror, that a killer is in their midst. One by one, the suspicious characters reveal their sordid pasts. Who is the murderer? Well this play certainly keeps you guessing right until the very end – and it is a brilliant traditional tale of -who dunnit?
