Old Skool Pantry, Luton

The Old Skool Pantry is a hidden gem in Luton, Bedfordshire and a first of many delis to open its doors in the growing community.

The deli first opened its doors to the public six months ago, but has since gained a large following across social media due to the themed afternoon teas and dinner events that often sellout very quickly. The Old Skool Pantry first opened as a deli selling italian cut meats, specialist sauces and other special delicacies. It has since expanded into a bar, cafe and restaurant, and attracts local residents with the changing themed breakfasts and dinners.

This quirky hotspot is a must-go and the food will not disappoint.

Here’s my honest review on the Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea:

Firstly, we were served a glass of prosecco each, but in my sober pregnant state this was replaced by a fresh orange juice.

The setting is cosy and confined and the room was buzzing full of women talking among themselves whilst tucking into mini cakes and treats (afternoon tea is the perfect excuse to over indulge on cakes and crumbs).

The savoury afternoon tea treats were served in a delightful decorated box and consisted of: Smoked Salmon and Beetroot Jam Roulade on Pumpernickel, Croque Monsieur and Quail Eggs and lastly, Falafel Bhaji Scotch Eggs. The savoury is normally my favourite part of an afternoon tea and the Old Skool style did not disappoint. I absolutely loved how each of the treats tasted fresh, homemade and 100% unique. Nothing let me down!

The sweet selection of the afternoon tea was served on a three tier vinyl record stand which consisted of: Raspberry Macaroons, Mini Doughnut Vicky Sandwiches, White Chocolate Mouse and Turkish Delights and lastly, some heart shaped Jammy Dodgers (you can’t go wrong with a queen of hearts biscuit).

To finish we were served tea, coffee or a soft drink of our choice, this gave us an opportunity to let our hearty meal go down and have a proper natter.

The owner of the Old Skool Pantry came down and spoke to us at the end of our tea experience, and this added to the very personal, friendly approach you get from the moment you enter the Pantry.

If you haven’t been to the Old Skool yet then you really are missing out. It’s the new Skool with the most amazing tastes!
