When I was a very young child, I really suffered with what I refer to as ‘the BIG itch’ and in medical terms I of course mean, Eczema.
So when I discovered a sore red dry patch on my 6 month old daughter’s arm, I immediately felt her pain and knew I had to explore all our options.
This is where I take you on a non-medical but personal experience of how I dealt with ‘the BIG itch’ as a child, but also in more recent years as a mother.
One of my memories from my childhood is a visual picture – mine and my younger sister’s bedroom. It was a lime green and yellow room (sounds horrendous doesn’t it?!) with different coloured flowers in a wallpaper border. I used to love counting the flowers on each wall, but forget that for a second. I always remember a BIG white container sitting next to my bed on my dresser. This was my eczema cream and I had to use it day and night to control my discomfort. I don’t remember much about how I suffered with the skin condition, which I guess is a huge positive but I do remember that visual. That cream went with me everywhere and one day, it just wasn’t needed any longer, and luckily I did not scar from my suffering.
So when I noticed a red rash on my 6 month old daughter Belle, and this is 20 odd years later; I knew that ‘the BIG itch’ had made a return to my life.
The first thing that came to my head was…that BIG white container. I had absolutely no knowledge on what that miracle cream was but I knew I had to find out and use it on my daughter. So after questioning my own Mum for several hours, and copious amounts of tea and Jammy Dodgers, we came to a conclusion – Epaderm®.
