What are the long-term consequences of divorce on children? Here’s a little guide on dealing with the fallout of divorce. This question has aroused many debates over the years. To answer this, Swedish researchers studied toddlers from single-parent families. The results suggest that this situation remains badly experienced, especially by boys in general. As the number of divorces increases, children are increasingly being brought up by their father or mother on their own. Divorce is incredibly common but any age can cause an issue for children. In younger children they may feel guilt and in older ages they may feel worry and isolation.

While many studies have sought to highlight the psychological, physical or socioeconomic consequences of this separation, the often contradictory results remain very controversial. There are many other issues to consider, such as monetary issues and work problems.
Dealing with the fallout of divorce…
I’m worried about legalities
Many studies demonstrate quite strongly that divorce does not only have short-term effects, but can have a lasting influence on the future of children. The lack of resources of the single parent would affect, directly or indirectly, the health and well-being of children. If you have worries about divorce and family you should look at ancillary relief.
You should never feel alone. There is always assistance for you. It is most certainly a trying time for both parents in this situation, and sometimes things can get heated. Life can even be thrown into turmoil. There may even be quarrels and issues relating to finances and more. If the spouses agree on the principle of divorce but cannot reach an agreement on the consequences for the children (attribution of parental authority, visitation rights, maintenance contribution), then legal bodies will assist and it will be the judge who decides on all matters concerning the children.
Agreement
Divorce gives you the possibility of drawing up the agreement and the request for divorce yourself, including with regard to the children. You are also given the option of letting the judge decide the amount of financial contributions as we just mentioned. It is good to think about what is best for your children and not necessarily what you want to do in order to ‘punish’ the ex- spouse. Think of what is the most amicable decision that will please the children and have their best interests at heart.
Remember that shared custody is one of the best options so that each parent can continue to maintain close and responsible relationships with their children. You should continue to encourage children to play with friends, enjoy school and behave as normal.
Maintain a good routine for them. After a divorce, it can be difficult to cope with all the internal and external problems for a long time. In the “post-divorce phase” it is appropriate and understandable to seek professional support and advice, for example from a marriage or family counseling center or from a private psychologist. It is possible to bounce back and to create a healthier and happier future, even after a troubling divorce.
