Last night we got the opportunity to review Milton Keynes Theatre’s opening night of Strictly Ballroom, and it definitely delivered on the dancing front.

Initially I was a little devastated to learn that Kevin Clifton would not be performing, especially as a huge Strictly Come Dancing fan, but the show is directed by the talented judge, Craig Revel Horwood, and is also co-choreographed with Strictly’s Creative Director – Jason Gilkison. So that being said, you know the dancing is going to be amazing!!
The Dancing on Ice finalist and Coronation Street star, Faye Brookes stars as the leading female role of Fran, and the leading male role of Scott Hastings was played by Edwin Ray. Scott is a brilliantly talented ballroom dancer, and that comes across by the way he moves and glances across the stage.
The story is all about how outcast Scott finds himself dancing with Fran, a beginner from his Mother’s dance class who cannot move at all. As the story unfolds (it does take a little while to get going in the first half), you see the pair begin to form a brilliant relationship and Faye begin to really move. The dancing and singing was fab-u-lous and the well known track of ‘Time After Time’ is a huge highlight to their onstage chemistry.
The overall production is one that resonates with any Strictly fan – glamour, superb moves and will have you either up out of your seat or tapping along to the rhythm.
